Spine Client Types Care Location Cardinality

Overview

Clients of the BadgerNet Spine are assigned a client type which has a care location cardinality appropriate for their intended use-case. This document has been created to detail the relationship between the Spine client types and their care location cardinality.

Background

The BadgerNet Spine has a requirement to support multiple different client types due to the varying use-cases of the Spine’s clients and their systems. The concept of a Spine client type was required to impose rules and expectations on the Spine client which sufficiently met the client’s needs for the system. Client Types

In the below sections, each of the client types are defined with their relationship to care locations.

Maternity (MAT)

The Spine client type of MAT is defined as a single maternity care record system instance that can read and/or write patient data to the BadgerNet Spine. A MAT client can only be assigned to one care location. As such, the MAT client can only update single pregnancy records that have the assigned care location as a stakeholder.

It is important to note that a care location is not limited to having one MAT Spine client. Hence, a care location could have multiple MAT Spine clients.

Maternity Read-Only (MAT-RO)

The spine client type of MAT-RO is defined as a generic remote system that can access a limited scope of data. MAT-RO clients can access multiple single pregnancy records belonging to multiple care locations simultaneously. Their access is limited to read only, and they have no ability to write data.

It is important to note that care locations must opt into the service that the client is offering.

Remote Spine Device

The Spine client type of Remote Spine Device is defined as a medical device or discrete data source for neonatal and maternity records. This client type has read and write access to multiple care locations' single pregnancy records provided the care locations have individually opted into the use of the client. Thus, a Spine client type of Remote Spine Device can access multiple care locations simultaneously.
